Top Tips For Best Sugaring Results
Hey all!
Prepping your skin before sugaring is super important and crucial for that amazing smooth and clean result. Whether you’re new to sugaring or not, here’s a simple guideline on what to and not to do before and after sugaring.
1) Never exfoliate skin day of sugaring- If you’re going to exfoliate prior to sugaring, do so at least 48 hours prior to. Exfoliating will leave the skin raw and tender, far too sensitive for sugaring. Sugaring in its self is a light exfoliant and removes dead skin cells, so if you’re wondering whether you should exfoliate prior to or not, it’s completely your preference.
2) Avoid applying any moisturizer day of sugaring- Applying any lotion or moisturiser will leave your skin too slippery for sugaring as the wax won’t be able to grip onto the hair. It’s best to lay off any lotion or moisturiser leading up to the day of.
3) Apply cornflour if your skin is sweaty or producing excess moisture- If you find your skin to be sweaty or oily, even if it’s clean and free from lotion, make sure to lightly dust cornflour to the areas you’ll be sugaring, as it’ll absorb the excess moisture on the skin. Some may use talcum powder instead, but it’s not the healthiest option especially if you’re sugaring delicate areas. Always opt to cornflour instead of talcum powder, as it’s a natural and safer alternative.
4) Trim long hairs before sugaring- Make sure the hair that you’ll be sugaring isn’t too long, preferably ¼ on an inch. Sugaring can remove short hairs really well but long hairs aren’t ideal and can hurt a little more.
5) Give your skin some time before tanning- It’s important to avoid direct sunlight after sugaring as your skin is raw and sensitive. Make sure to apply sunscreen after sugaring to protect your skin regardless if it’s sunny or not. It’s also important to give some time for your skin to breathe after sugaring if you’re going to apply any tanning products. The rule of thumb is to wait at least 48 hours after sugaring.
